Ever wonder how to make those tender hollow little cream puff shells? Well, join us to find out! Learn the history and basic techniques of creating sweet and savory pastries from pâte à choux (pot-a-shoo) dough. You'll make your own dough and pipe éclairs and cream puffs. We’ll make pastry cream, whipped cream, and chocolate ganache to fill your creations. These recipes will kick your entertaining up several notches.

Experience three classics from Detroit institutions that have been around since the 1920s and 1940s. Together we'll bake Detroit-style deep dish pizza with caramelized cheese edges baked in a blue steel pan, spiced almond cookies in the traditional windmill shape, and a long john coffee cake with a butter, brown sugar, and walnut streusel. Get a little piece of history and a big bite of flavor, along with plenty of hands-on practice, and tips for mastering these new recipes.

At Zingerman’s Bakehouse. we bake every bagelas they made a long time ago—crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, with big flavor, and a hole you can stick your finger through. Let us teach you to make a great bagel in your own home. You'll mix your dough from scratch, knead it by hand, shape it into rings, then boil and bake your bagels to get just the right texture. You'll choose your seeds too. We'll also show you traditional bialys, a crispy, chewy roll with a center of slow-roasted onions and poppy seeds. In our class, we'll snack on some different types of bagelalong with fresh cream cheese from our neighbor Zingerman's Creamery. This class will give you a great go-to recipe. Who wouldn't be impressed waking up to freshly baked bagels? After all, better bagels could make for better weekends!

One of our most popular classes! Your family and house guests won't soon forget waking up to the aroma of butter, cinnamon, andbrown sugar from freshly baked sweet rolls. Join us and find out how it's done. Learn the basic techniques of creating a sweet dough, including mixing, kneading and rolling, hand-shaping your rolls, and properly proofing them. We'll also demonstrate how to make pecan sticky buns, a staff favorite. Wait until you taste these warm from the oven in class!

While wine & cheese, and chocolate are relatively familiar combinations, all three together can be an uncommon matchup. We’ll get your taste buds tingling and give you plenty of decadent pairing ideas for your next gathering - whether you are throwing a girls night out or just having a quiet night in!

Learn to make buttery buttermilk biscuits & scrumptious scones from scratch. These are recipes you'll make together again and again.

BAKE! up some memories with your kids! Spend quality time in our teaching kitchen making something delicious together. Then we'll clean up the mess while you head home to enjoy what you made. These are modified versions of our classes—still hands-on, same great recipes, just scaled back a bit for younger students. Family groups work on each recipe together and take home what they made in class.

Family groups are:

one adult two children (ages 7 to 13)
or two adults and one child (age 7 to 13)

There is a minimum of two and a maximum of three people per family group.

Named for the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, the St. Honore is an over-the-top French dessert. It's a marriage of cream puffs and a Napoleon. You'll learn a variety of classic techniques and components that can be used in this recipe and in many other applications as well: puff pastry, pate choux, pastry cream, whipped cream, and caramelized sugar. This dessert isa project but well worth the effort. Any dessert that is built out of other desserts is a winner in our book and is sure to impress in your guests! (Check out our Instagram highlights for morebehind-the-scenes shots from this class!) This class also includes a great Bakehouse lunch.
