Food and the traditions and cultures surrounding our foodways have shaped the lives of our ancestors and our own lives. Food has always brought people together and strengthened our community. If you are interested in the cultural significance of recipes and how they influence the culture, don't miss this unique event! The Camp Bacon Film Festival celebrates southern food traditions and culture through film. A casual evening of bacon-studded snacks accompanied by a discussion of food traditions. We'll supply the non-alcoholic beverages; beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for sale. $10 of the ticket price will be donated to Southern Foodways.

Every year, we host a big dinner at the Roadhouse with a special guest. This year, we are excited to welcome James Beard Award-winning chef Rick Bayless! The owner of 9 restaurants, he is also a winner of the Julia Child Foundation Award, a prestigious honor given to “an individual who has made a profound and significant impact on the way America cooks, eats and drinks.” Many know him from his highly rated television show, Mexico–One Plate at a Time, and for winning the title of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. He has written nine cookbooks, the fourth, Mexico–One Plate at a Time, won the James Beard Best International Cookbook of the Year award in 2001. The 9th annual Bacon Ball will be a night to remember, as Rick Bayless and Roadhouse head chef, Bob Bennett, prepare an unforgettable feast!

We'll be using the power of bacon to flavor three amazing baked goods, all in honor of Zingerman's Guide to Better Bacon book (available at all Zingerman's locations). You'll make a similar version of our wildly popular peppered bacon farm bread, bacon cheddar scones found in the book, and sweet and salty bacon pecan sandy cookies. We'll take you to hog heaven with a demonstration of our maple glazed bacon apple doughnuts. Try and contain yourself.

You'll leave BAKE! with our recipes, the knowledge to recreate them at home, two loaves of bread, a dozen scones, three dozen cookies and great coupons.

Camp Bacon is an annual event hosted across all the Zingerman's Community of Businesses that celebrates the history, stories, and love of BACON. We're offering this JUST FOR KIDS tasting during the camp festivities to share some bacon love with a younger audience. You will learn to taste bacon like an expert as we work our way through the World of Bacon. We'll tell you about some of our favorite bacon makers, learn about different types of bacon, and talk about some of our favorite ways to eat bacon. Oh yeah, and we'll eat some bacon.

We think kids ages 4-14 would most enjoy this tasting. Parents are welcome to attend at no charge and observe on the sidelines. All participants will receive a 20% off coupon to use after the tasting to eat and/or shop at the Deli. Please include your child's name, age, and any allergy information in the comments field when you register. Thank you!

If our Mambo Italiano class is the grand tour, this is more like a trip to Little Italy. All the fun and flavor in half the time. We’ll make sesame semolina from Sicily and focaccia from Genoa. You'll learn all the techniques of mixing, kneading, shaping, proofing and baking these yeasted breads at home. From the nutty flavor of sesame semolina to the olive oil infused decadence of focaccia, soon you too will be saying Viva Italia!
You'll leave BAKE! with our recipes, the knowledge to recreate them at home, two loaves of sesame semolina, two focaccia rounds, semolina dough to bake later, a poolish to make more bread at home and great coupons.

At Zingerman’s Bakehouse we bake bagels as they were a long time ago - crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, with big flavor, and a hole you can stick your finger through. Let us teach you to make a great bagel in your own home. You'll mix your dough from scratch, knead it by hand, shape it into rings, then boil and bake your bagels to get just the right texture. You'll choose your seeds too. We'll also show you traditional bialys, a crispy chewy roll with a center of slow roasted onions and poppy seeds. In class we'll snack on some bagels along with fresh cream cheese from our neighbor Zingerman's Creamery. This class will give you a great go-to recipe. Who wouldn't be impressed waking up to fresh baked bagels? After all, better bagels could make for better weekends!
