A feast for all the senses.

The Roadhouse is so excited to host the Ann Arbor debut of Cynthia Carris Alonso, a nationally recognized photographer and U of M Alum, who has brilliantly captured the vibrancy of Cuban cuisine for her masterful cookbook, A Taste of Cuba: A Journey Through Cuba and Its Savory Cuisine!

Cynthia’s bright, colorful photos will come to life at the Roadhouse on November 12th, as she shares stories from her journey through the streets of Cuba. During the beginning of the meal, she will share an exclusive presentation that will highlight her adventures of being a photojournalist in Cuba for the past 25 years! Many of the recipes she’s collected from the country’s top 20 restaurants and paladares, private, family-owned establishments, have never before been written down or translated. We can’t wait to see, taste, and hear about these rare treasures!

“In A Taste of Cuba the connections between food and family history and cuisine and culture are made in vivid detail. I felt as if I were taking a coast-to-coast journey through the land of my roots, sampling dishes that reminded me of my own family dinners, the aromas and savory spices and sugary sweets. This book is more than its recipes, it is a story of how a people express themselves with their cooking.”
—Soledad O’Brien, CEO of Starfish Media Group & Host of Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien

Chef Bob Bennett will be working with Cynthia to create a festive, delicious menu that celebrates a beautiful, evolving culture. Copies of this book will be available for purchase and autograph, so don’t miss out on an opportunity to get yours and to experience the flavors of Cuba right here in Ann Arbor!
